Sherwin Yan

Xiaoyong “Sherwin Yan”, M.D., Ph.D., DABT, ERT, is an Associate Fellow of Pre-clinical Science and Safety Surveillance, Regulatory Affairs for Altria Client Services in Richmond, VA. In this role, he leads the toxicological assessment strategy for e-vapor products and the adverse experience surveillance program on behalf of Altria companies’ products.

Prior to joining Altria in 2024, Dr. Yan was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs-Toxicology and Product Safety for NJOY. In this role, he led the nonclinical science and product safety surveillance, providing significant contributions to the Premarket Tobacco Product Applications (PMTAs) and international registrations. He served as the Chair of Product Stewardship Committee and Head of the Pharmacovigilance Task Force which successfully achieved FDA Marketing Granted Orders (MGOs) for NJOY ACE and NJOY DAILY products.

Previously, Dr. Yan held many roles in the US industry with increasing responsibilities in the fields of regulatory science, safety & toxicology, and product stewardship and supported a wide range of regulated product categories, including pharmaceuticals, OTCs, medicaldevices, tobacco, and consumer products.

Before pursuing his advanced degrees in the US, Dr. Yan served as an Otolaryngologist in the EYE & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Dr. Yan is a US Board certified toxicologist (DABT), EU certified safety assessor, Fellow of Royal Society of Biology, and full member of Society of Toxicology. He has (co-) authored over 20 scientific publications, book chapters, and conference presentations, and lecturedextensively on product stewardship, toxicological risk assessment, and global regulatory compliance.
